There are many different types of rubber craft stamps out there.
Perhaps Wood mounted rubber stamps are what many people associate which
rubber craft stamping and have been available for years by a variety of
companies.
What you want to look for is the best quality deeply etched rubber for
creating your best image.
Also available and is only what I produce and sell is the Unmounted
Rubber Stamp.
This is simply the red (or black, grey) rubber foam without any cushion
or wood mount
Advantages of Unmounted Rubber Stamps versus their Mounted counterpart:
- Cost - It is much cheaper to produce. Wood
products have been on the increase for some time now and the mounts for
these stamps which are usually made from hard wood continues to climb
thus making the price of a mounted stamp climb as well.
- Storage – An unmounted stamp takes up much less
space that the mounted varieties both in the store and most especially
in your craft room. Unmounted stamps can be stored easily in a binder
on your self where many images can be stored in one simple place.
- Shipping costs – Shipping an unmounted stamp again
costs a great deal less that the bulk and weight of the mounted
variety. A stamp can be easily slipped into a padded envelope and go at
letter mail rate. Again affecting the cost of your stamping hobby.
- Reusable – I know you say well mounted rubber
stamps are reusable what’s the difference. Well you are right but
unmounted stamps can be put on a piece of EZmount foam then put on an
Acrylic block stamped, cleaned and removed from the block and
re-stored. The piece of foam is reusable over and over again on acrylic
mounts and only cost approximately $1.00 per stamp for the foam.
- This will also save you money, as you only need a
few difference sizes of acrylic block for your various stamps. Saves on
storage as your stamps are returned to the binder and your few acrylic
blocks simply slip into a corner of a drawer.
It is my opinion the Advantages of the Unmounted Rubber Stamp way out
ways the old traditional mounted form.
